Mousumi Nayak’s Controversy:
The 2023 Legal Case
In November 2023, Odisha police arrested Mousumi Nayak in Bhubaneswar following a complaint from writer Banasmita Pati. According to reporting at the time, the roughly two-year dispute between the two women centered on money — Pati alleged Nayak owed her funds tied to a stock-market investment and had made public accusations against her; Nayak, for her part, had earlier accused Pati of pressuring her into escort-service involvement and of failing to return money, claims Pati’s side denied.
Police registered the case under Indian Penal Code sections covering extortion, public obscenity, and criminal intimidation (Sections 385, 294, 506, and 507), and Bhubaneswar’s Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ramesh Bisoyi, said Nayak had confessed during questioning. She was produced in court and sent to judicial custody. In an interview given around the time of the dispute, Nayak described the breakdown of what she called a twelve-year relationship with Pati and said she simply wanted her money returned.
This account is based on reporting from OdishaBytes, SheThePeople, and Amar Ujala at the time of the arrest (see Sources below). No information on the case’s final legal outcome was found in this research; if the matter has since been resolved in court, that update is not reflected here.

Mousumi Nayak Career:
Mousumi Nayak’s confirmed filmography includes a role in the 2022 Odia film Chumki, in which she is credited in the role of “Banjaran,” according to IMDb’s cast listing for the film. Beyond this, various websites attribute additional film and web-series credits to her, including a claimed role in the major Hindi-language film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023). That claim could not be confirmed: the film’s widely reported cast — led by Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, with Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, and others in supporting and cameo roles — does not include her, and no production or news source lists her as part of it. Readers should treat that credit, and any other unverified filmography claims found elsewhere online, with caution unless a primary source (an official cast list, production announcement, or the film itself) confirms them.
