The vaccine plant (manufacturing), Sapigen Biologix, situated at Odisha Biotech Park in Bhubaneswar, is anticipated to commence commercial production by May of this year.
Led by Dr. Krishna Ella of Bharat Biotech, the facility is in its final phase of commissioning and is poised to become the largest vaccine-producing plant in the country.
It has the capacity to manufacture 2.4 crore doses of various vaccines per day. Established with an investment of Rs 1500 crores, the plant aims to create 1500 direct employment opportunities, with a focus on local hiring from Odisha.
The facility plans to produce over 15 different vaccines targeting diseases like cholera and malaria, contributing to global health initiatives. The Odisha government has recently approved a biotechnology policy to support such ventures.
