Smt. Laxmi Meher is an award-winning Indian painter known for her Odisha Pattachitra paintings. She has completed 30 years of her career as a painter, marking a significant milestone in the Indian art scene.

Laxmi Meher Family and Erly Life

Born on July 6, 1967, in Tarava, Odisha, Smt. Meher currently resides in Bolangir town, Odisha. Her husband, Padmashri Kailash Chandra Meher, her elder son Prakash Meher, her daughter Manisha Meher, and her younger son Jayanta Meher are all nationally renowned artists. Each family member has received numerous state and national awards in art and crafts.

Laxmi Meher Marriage and Artistic Beginnings

Smt. Meher married early and began her craft at the age of eighteen. She gained significant experience in Tussar painting from her husband, a UNESCO and ShilpGuru awardee with extensive knowledge in art and crafts. For the past three decades, she has devoted herself to this craft, balancing her duties as a housewife with training many institutions such as the “Indian Art & Craft Academy for Women” and the “Handicrafts Handloom Museum & Service Centre for Women,” where many poor artisans have been trained. She is now a renowned Pattachitra painter in Odisha and India.

Commitment to Empowering Women Artisans

Smt. Meher strives to help and support needy women in the KBK districts of Odisha. She successfully completed government training schemes like “Guru Shishya Parampara under HRD scheme” and “Scheme-C,” contributing significantly to the empowerment of women artisans.
