Anuradha Paudwal (born 27 October 1954) is an Indian playback singer renowned for her work in Hindi cinema. Widely acknowledged as one of the prominent Bhajan singers and among the most successful playback singers of the 80s and 90s in Bollywood, she has received numerous accolades. Anuradha Paudwal’s awards include a National Film Award, four consecutive Filmfare Awards from 1990 to 1992, and two Odisha State Film Awards.
Her significant contributions to Indian devotional music and the Bollywood industry have earned her titles such as the “Bhajan Queen” and “Melody Queen.” In recognition of her remarkable contributions to the arts, the Government of India honored her with the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian honor.
Career
Paudwal made her debut with a Sanskrit verse in the 1973 Hindi film “Abhiman,” composed by S. D. Burman. She has also lent her voice to songs in various languages, including Marathi, Tamil, Odia, Nepali, Bengali, and Kannada.
Personal life
She was born as Alka Nadkarni in a Marathi-speaking family in Karwar. Anuradha Paudwal was married to Arun Paudwal, a music composer, with whom she had a son named Aditya and a daughter named Kavita, who is a singer by profession. Anuradha survived a helicopter crash in 2002 in Madhya Pradesh. Unfortunately, on 12 September 2020, her son Aditya passed away due to kidney failure.
